Chocolate Nut Butter Banana Blobs aka Monkey Poop

I’ve been banging on about Monkey Poop for a week now so I feel like I better get to the point. Fast! It’s like when we were kids, and someone asked for a bite of your food, and you teased them by pulling it away as they tried to bite it. Then, when they eventually got their teeth into whatever it was they were trying to taste, they near took your finger off with it! Me – holding the food… you – trying to taste it. Chomp chomp!

Life Made Full is one of those blogs you could browse aaaaaaall day. In fact I blame Shanti for the delay in this post since everytime I go her original recipe to make it, I get side-tracked by another peanut butter post. Seriously, peanut butter all over her blog, it is so hard to concentrate!

  • 400g Ripe Bananas (approx. 3 large fruit)
  • 250g / 1C Nut Butter (I used almond butter, my fave!)
  • 20g Desiccated Coconut
  • 30g Coconut nectar *
  • Generous pinch of good quality salt – Celtic, Himalayan, Kalaharian (yes, that’s a new fancy salt!)
  • Dark chocolate, preferably organic & raw, broken into pieces **
  1. Blend everything except the chocolate together until well blended
  2. Depending on how ripe your bananas are, you might be need to scoop with a spoon or pour straight from your blender into a mini muffin tin.  Freeze for an hour, until frozen solid.
  3. Melt your chocolate in a double boiler or in your Thermomix on 50C. Any higher and your start to compromise all that dark chocolatey, superfoody, anti-oxidant goodness.
  4. Pop your frozen monkey poop out of the muffin trays and gracefully dredge them through the chocolate until you all you can see are little peep-holes in the chocolate where your fingers were holding them, and refreeze on baking paper lined biscuit trays. We eat them straight from the freezer like little balls of frozen, well, monkey poop! *confession* I spent the first 21 22 years of my life in Africa and I have never actually seen monkey poop. Just sayin…

Variations:

  • Sprinkle chopped peanuts over the top before the chocolate sets
  • Play around with more salt to make it a salted chocolate ball of poop 😉
  • Make it nut free by using tahini or sunflower seed butter instead of almond butter

*You can also use raw honey, brown rice syrup or maple syrup, whatever you prefer.

** I didn’t actually use dark chocolate, I used raw cacao paste/wafers which is unsweetened, very dark chocolate. In fact cacao paste is what you have before the cacao powder is separated from the cacao butter! You can buy it from my affiliate partner Changing Habits

Just made these for the first time – YUM!! Huge hit with the kids (who rarely get ice cream..). The banana mix defrosted too quickly, so am going to freeze the rest overnight and coat them in chocolate tomorrow.

So glad they were such hit Jo, well done, yum! I store mine in the freezer – even once they’re covered in chocolate otherwise they thaw and become mushy quite quickly. But oh so yummy still! ❤ Jodi
